Kootenai Medical Center, located fifteen minutes away in Coeur d’Alene, is an award winning regional healthcare facility, with a long history of providing leading edge, high quality healthcare services in an environment where caring and compassion are the rule. Kootenai Medical Center is a 254-bed Community-owned facility providing care for all patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week, regardless of patients' ability to pay. Since 1966, KMC's physicians, clinical staff and employees have served North Idaho with heart and compassion, providing quality medical services to patients when it matters most. From emergency and intensive care services to full-service surgical and medical-surgical services, KMC offers complete health care services and superior nursing care. In 2006, KMC was designated as a Magnet hospital by the American Nursing Credentialing Center, the ultimate benchmark for quality nursing care.


KMC features a specialized emergency services center, critical care units, and excellent pediatrics, obstetrics, oncology, and rehabilitation departments. KMC's North Idaho Heart Center provides comprehensive cardiac services ranging from diagnostic procedures to interventional and open-heart surgery.


Another service of KMC is the North Idaho Cancer Center, which is dedicated to delivering a full-range of cancer services with recent upgrades in research facilities. The Cancer Center participates in national and international research trials where patients can access investigational drug therapies.

North Idaho Behavioral Health, a division of KMC, provides separate units for children, adolescents and adult care for mental health and chemical dependency services. It offers dual diagnosis programs for chemical dependency and psychiatric care, a 24-hour crisis line, crisis assessment, and a mental health referral system.


Kootenai County and the surrounding area also offer many, other outstanding health and medical facilities such asLakeland Immediate Care here in Rathdrum, the North Idaho Immediate and Family Medical Care Centers, as well as the Northwest Specialty Hospital located in Post Falls.
